GVO's eResponder Dashboard

Our latest recommendation: if you're looking for a proven email marketing solution, we currently recommend using Aweber or Traffic Wave.

One of the best ways to build a business is to build a relationship with you prospects through constant contact. You can do this with the phone, meetings (1-on-1 or in a group, or with regular mail, but those are either too time consuming or cost a lot of money. With the internet, you can do this through email. Autoresponders allow you to build relationships and maintain contact using an automated system. With eResponder Pro, you can also send out hundreds or thousands of emails in 1-shot, without being flagged as SPAM - and that's very easy if you're using a free email system like Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail.

About the GVO eResponder Pro System

I cancelled my Aweber account and transferred over to eResponder Pro. eResponder Pro Features

  • Create unlimited groups/campaigns (with Titanium Account)
  • Send in HTML or Plain Text
  • Easy to use HTML editor
  • High deliverability rate
  • Personalize messages with custom fields
  • Ultra Fast mail sending
  • Unlimited Autoresponders and Follow-Ups (with Titanium Account)
  • Professional forms to choose from
  • Send single messages
  • Timed sending of emails
  • Powerful subscriber filtering and sending
  • Unsubscribe function
  • Daily activity report
  • Advanced click tracking and reporting
  • Bounced message handling

After doing some research, here is what I've found:

Regarding price

If you have 5,001 to 10,000 subscribers (as of 4/23/2011), the monthly cost would be $50 (See update below). If you have 10,001 to 20,000 subscribers on Aweber, the cost would be $130 (as of 4/23/2011). The cost for eResponder Pro, hosting, video hosting, and everything else in the Titanium package is less than $50 and I have a 20,000 subscriber limit...which is cool:)

(Update - October 31, 2014)

I noticed that GVO is now offering a free autresponder service called eresponder (AKA E-responder Pro). It's a great idea if you're just starting out or just want to try it out.

(Update - November 11, 2012)

When I got started in GVO, the main account was called a Titanium account. They now have marketing packages that are extremely affordable. If you want the basic marketing tools and web hosting, you can now get started with a personal account for only $3.95 a month. It doesn’t have unlimited domains and subscribers, but it’s a real bargain.

If you’re an affiliate marketer, I would suggest picking their Host Then Profits or Reseller package. The Host Then Profits package starts at less than $10 a month. You can boost your subscriber limit and it costs a fraction of what the top competitors are charging.

Regarding delivery rate

Both GVO and Aweber have a "Good" reputation rating based on Cisco's email reputation checker. According to Cisco, the "Good" rating means:

"Little or no threat activity has been observed from your IP address or domain. Your email traffic is not likely to be filtered or blocked, allowing for trouble-free email delivery worldwide."

Yahoo received a "Neutral" rating which means:

"Your IP address or domain is within acceptable parameters. However, your email traffic may still be filtered or blocked. Typical senders in this category include low-volume senders, senders with asymmetrical or unique sending patterns, or senders who have had problems in the past who are transitioning to a Good reputation score. Senders with Neutral reputation scores should have no problems delivering mail to most places on the Internet."

Is GVO Better Than Aweber?

To be fair, Aweber does have a lot of features that GVO doesn't. Their strong point is the amount of analytics that they provide. With that being said, there are 2 things that you should be aware of. With Aweber, you're paying a lot more for features that most people don't use. The other issue is that image pixel tracking is used to create the statistics. While most autoresponders do the same thing, you should also know that autoresponder stats shouldn't be counted on since they are extremely inaccurate. There are many people that don't turn on email images by default. My gmail account has my images turned off by default for sure. So what this all means is that there are a lot of people that aren't being counted with these image generated statistics. Stats-wise, GVO does tell me how many people subscribe, how many people unsubscribe, visit my opt-in page, how many people open their emails, complain, blocked, who's confirmed or not, and more. There enough there to keep me busy and run my business effectively.

Other Techie Features

Besides the typical autoresponder and email broadcasts, GVO also has the ability to create automated rules. So if you're an intermediate to advance user, you can either automatically unsubscribe or subscribe users to various lists. This is a great features that you can use to segment your campaigns and build your core list. GVO offers an unlimited campaign autoresponder system with their reseller hosting account.

Conclusion

When we originally reviewed GVO's autoresponder, it was my pick.  Since then, Aweber has really supercharged their platform by making their interface more intuitive and they also allow users to easily import leads from trusted sources (double opt-in or existing customers).  I also use TrafficWave for my double opt-in only campaigns. So, if you're looking for a proven email marketing solution, we currently recommend using Aweber or Traffic Wave
